There are approximately 60 types of coffee trees, but ony ten of these species are mass cultivated in the world. The most widespread are: Coffee Arabica, Coffee Canephora, Coffee Liberica. Coffee Arabica, commonly called Arabica, is considered the highest quality beans and therefore are usually more expensive. They grow best in high altitudes and produce a very flavorful and aromatic coffee, low in caffeine and acidity. In Colombia, Arabica is exclusively grown.
Numerous varieties exist within the species Arabica, due to mutations caused by ecological differences in the regions where the trees are grown. The types of Arabica trees used to make our gourmet coffee are the Bourbon and Caturra trees.
Colombian beans are also known as Washed Arabica and are the highest quality of Arabica coffee. Unlike beans from other origins, all Colombian coffee is "washed;"
this process releases many impurities and acid agents, which gives it its rich taste and aroma. Don Humberto only brings his coffee drinkers the highest of quality beans, and therefore only uses beans from coffee Arabica trees. This is why our Colombian coffee tastes so good!
